Pool Sustainability Committee Report to the Board - June 30, 2009
Pool Sustainability Committee Report
The Committee's quantitative analysis of the new pool options shows:
- The pool can be run profitably, in either the 1-pool or 2-pool configuration, based on Albany’s historic experience of simultaneous scheduling of multiple revenue generating activities, and extended pool hours
- The 2-pool design has the lowest construction costs, best net operating costs, and most hours of school use
- Energy efficiency and renewal resource measures can save up to $100,000/year

Pool Sustainability Committee - advisory to the Superintendent
The ad hoc Pool Sustainability Committee, headed by former School Board Chair Charlie Blanchard, was appointed by the Superintendent in March 2009 to re-evaluate the design and economics of the Albany Pool Project.
This citizens committee will advise the Superintendent in developing a new comprehensive plan for the Albany Pool Project to:
- Minimize operating costs (as ‘revenue neutral’ as possible), by maximizing ‘green’ construction, and cooperating with the City of Albany
- Keep Albany High School classrooms in the project budget
- Be within the budget ($10,000,000) and include a larger District Contingency Reserve (9%) for unforeseen circumstances
ALL MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
For location, please contact Committee Chair Charlie Blanchard.
